So I was scrolling as usual, minding my own business when I came across the concept of a “weekly meme“. I was intrigued and here we are.

Turns out weekly memes are exactly what I’ve been looking for to get back into blogging. I’ve been going through journal prompts, creative writing prompts, all the prompts and nothing was exactly what I needed. This might be just the right fit, but time will tell.

Top Ten Tuesday Turns Ten!

Wow that was a lot of T’s! Okay so recently I came across Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader and I think their 10 year anniversary is the perfect time for me join in!

So for this week’s prompt, there are two options:

  1. Pick a past TTT topic you’ve done and redo/update it
  2. Pick a past TTT topic you wish you’d done, but didn’t get a chance to

Naturally, I will be going with Option 2 as this is my first time participating! I am so happy that I discovered this, it’s exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for and it comes with a built in community.

Top Ten Tuesday Ten Year Anniversary

The Top Ten Topic

Now this is going to be really difficult to pick if I go through the entire list, so I’ll make it easy for myself. I first came across this by seeing everyone’s posts from last week, it peeked my curiosity and I think the prompt deserves to be on my blog.

Top 10 Books on My 2020 Winter TBR

So I decided to look at my bookshelf for this post and only put physical books on here to try motivate myself to read less digital books.

Non-Fiction

Book #1: Sapiens

Sapiens – Yuval Noah Harari

I started this a little while ago and the first two chapters are absolutely blowing my mind! It is so interesting to read about our history as homo sapiens. Definitely hope to learn a lot from this book and I feel like it’ll be a very high star-rating for me. I had forgotten how much I really love learning about history until I found Sapiens.

Book #2: The Gabriel Method

The Gabriel Method – Jon Gabriel

I absolutely love this book! I really wanted to re-read this at the beginning of the year, but I didn’t manage to find the time. Hopefully winter will be the time to refresh my mindset and get back to meditation, visualisation, taking vitamins, and adding real food back into my diet. I haven’t been the healthiest during lockdown and I’d really like to fix my routine. The Gabriel Method is one of my go-to self-development books.

Book #3: Make It Happen

Make It Happen – Jordanna Levin

How stunning is this cover? I bought this book last year and it’s another one that I wanted to read in January but didn’t. I love the concept of manifesting the life of your dreams, and I truly believe that your thoughts have a huge impact on your reality. I’m really interested in seeing what this new-to-me author has to say on the topic.

Book #4: Fast French

Fast French – Elisabeth Smith

Another reread! I originally purchased this book when I transferred to a new high-school back in 2012 and French was a new subject I desperately wanted to take instead of Accounting. I haven’t been keeping up with my French practice consistently so I’d like to re-read Fast French as a way to ease myself back into a more regular study of the language.

Book #5: A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming

A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming – Dylan Tuccillo, Jared Zebel, and Thomas Peisel

I have always been a pretty vivid dreamer and I am fascinated by dreams in general. I have been able to Lucid Dream in the past and I was quite obsessed with the topic, which resulted in me purchasing this book a very long time ago. I have started it in the past, but never finished it. I think it would be a really fun thing to journal about (maybe I’ll document it on my journal blog). I really hope to finally read this book and Lucid Dream again.

On Writing…

Book #6: Get Started in Writing a Novel

Get Started in Writing a Novel – Nigel Watts & Stephen May

I have been itching to get back to writing and blogging is a lovely escape but I still have that novel I’ve been meaning to write ever since I can remember. This book was on a tbr or two of mine in the past but I don’t think it was the right time for writing or reading about it. I think I’m in a much better headspace at the moment compared to last year.

Book #7: Scrivener Absolute Beginner’s Guide

Scrivener Absolute Beginner’s Guide – Jennifer Kettel

My dad recently purchased Scrivener for our family Mac account and I’ve slowly been going through the tutorial but I think this book might be really helpful. Scrivener is a program for writing novels and plays and I hope to consolidate my research and notes into this space. It has really beautiful interface and I love it so much more on a MacBook than when I tried it on Windows a couple years ago.

A Couple of Sequels

Book #8: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J.K. Rowling

At first I considered leaving this book off here but I felt it would be really dishonest of me to hide a book I’m reading. I started feeling very scared about mentioning HP and the rest of the world in my online space, but this world and this universe has been my safe space since I was 6 years old.

I am not in the lgbtq+ community but it absolutely breaks my heart as an ally that so many people have been hurt by the tweets and statements from J.K. Rowling a few weeks ago. I’ll continue to support my lgbtq+ friends and if anyone feels that they do not want to be seeing any HP content, please let me know and I will remove this part of the post. I have seen so many conflicting views and there are many people that don’t want to lose this magical world that brought so many people together and taught us to be more tolerant and accepting of others.

My sister and I started buddy-reading the books quite a few months ago but we’ve been making slow progress. We both loved the books as children and reading them as adults we are more critical of the content and we have been discussing some of the problematic aspects and structure and so forth along the way. We’ll be completing our re-read of this series but we will also be reading some of our other childhood favourites such as Percy Jackson, Narnia, and a few more to see if we view the books differently now that we’re older.

Book #9: Wundersmith

Wundersmith – Jessica Townsend

I initially read Nevermoor a month ago and I fell in love! I read it digitally but it’s one of few books that I loved so much that I had to buy a physical copy to reread many many times in future. I bought the first two books in this series a few weeks ago and I am unbelievably excited to read Wundersmith! I adore the world of Nevermoor and the characters are all quirky and loveable. I can totally see why people compare it to Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland.

A Classic or Six?

Book #10: The Complete Novels of Jane Austen

The Complete Novels of Jane Austen

Okay, so this is technically cheating because this book contains all of Jan Austen’s books. But I am sad to say that I have actually never read any of her novels even though I adore all the screen adaptions. I think it’s about time that I read the books and I just saw that next month there is a readathon called Jane Austen July (hosted by Marissa and Katie) which might just be the perfect time to start!

I think this was the perfect time for me to join Top Ten Tuesday and I loved writing this post. I look forward to participating in the next ten years of TTT!

What is on your winter tbr? Do you also participate in TTT? Please let me know in the comments!

Lots of love and keep thinking, Inklings!

xoxo

Bianca
