The Christmas Tag
So I really enjoyed doing the Bookish Naughty or Nice tag and I really wanted to do some more tags. Naturally I came across The Christmas Tag on quite a few blogs, but I believe The Enthusiast is the creator of this specific tag. I’ll include a list of all the questions at the bottom of the post to make it easier if you would like to do the tag, and be sure to leave a link in the comments to your post.
Without further ado, here is the Christmas Blog Tag:
1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Definitely The Holiday. It is one I can watch over and over again. It starts off with the two leads being very unhappy-in-love and deciding they need a break from their regular lives.
So, they do a house-swap. One goes to sunny America and the other flies over to snowy England and they step into each other’s shoes for a few weeks.
They live in each other’s houses for the winter holidays and Christmas. There, across the world from their normal lives they end up finding themselves again and it’s a classic rom-com with some tears and drama, but a lovely happy ending.
2. Have you ever had a White Christmas
I think so, when I very young (4-6 years old) we lived in Warwick, England and it snowed but I can’t remember all that much of it. I do remember playing in the snow a bit and some of the presents we got, but it’s all a little bit hazy now. The rest of the time I’ve been in countries that have pretty warm climates, so no snow recently.
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
I usually go back home to South Africa for the holidays and most Christmases we host the family get-together at our house. For the past two years we’ve gone to our Grandparents’ house in Bela Bela. So, even though I’ve been living in Dubai I still have a Summer Christmas every year, and I’ll be going home again this year for the holidays too.
4. What is your favourite Christmas song?
Not too sure if it counts as a Christmas song, but my favourite song about December is from Anastasio called Once Upon a December. This recording is from the Musical (which I would LOVE to see) but I was obsessed with the movie as a child.
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Yes, we usually open all our presents on Christmas Eve. The only reason we may open some on Christmas Day is if we see extended family and they bring gifts with them. The rest of out presents from/for my parents and my sister we open on Christmas Eve and we take turns picking a present and watching the person it’s intended for open it.
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and the most famous of all, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
Spending time with loved ones. Cooking and baking together. Playing games and giving gifts.
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
We usually have a fake tree. I’m not too sure if real pine trees are sold in South Africa for Christmas.
9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?
My Grandma’s Christmas ice-cream pudding. I have also been craving gingerbread cookies lately.
10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Lately I like giving gifts more that receiving them. It really makes me happy to watch their faces light up with a smile if they like what you got them.
11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
There have been so many amazing ones it’s hard to pick. Probably my laptop and my blog domain. One from my mom and one from my dad. I do want to upgrade to a Macbook Air 2018 sometime in the future, but honestly I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have this laptop. And my blog has been so fun to play around with and it’s helped me to learn more about myself. writing, mental health, and so much more.
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I’d love to go to Disney World and The Wizarding World in October or December. The decorations look amazing and there is so much that I haven’t explored there yet.
13. Are you a pro present-wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I do try and I love the different designs on the wrapping paper, but I’m not always the neatest wrapper. Especially when the presents are in odd shapes and sizes.
14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
When I was around 8 or 9 we woke up to find our parents had set up a tent in our living room with little camping chairs for my sister and me. The tent was filled with lots of other goodies too. It was a particularly good Christmas. We went camping for the first time the following year and toured around half the country for a few weeks.
15. When did you realize the truth about Santa?
I can’t really remember if our parents played up the Santa thing or not, but I always believe in a little bit of magic here and there. We didn’t always have a chimney after all and I think that made me rather suspicious…
16. Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I do make a few goals, and I have done so for at least the past two years (it’s so much easier to keep track of things in a Bullet Journal). Some I stick to, others I forget about along the way or don’t have too much time for. I also tend to make the goals pretty big, so I think I should make them a bit ‘SMART’ next time round.
17. What makes the holidays special for you?
Being with people who love me (even if there’s some disagreements along the way). The amazing food that only makes an appearance during this time of year is a plus too. There’s always a little bit of magic in the air in December.
