Introduction

Hi everyone! I’ve been debating and struggling with myself for the past couple of weeks about whether I should do Blogmas this year or not. I thought 25 days of blog posts was a bit intimidating so I compromised and I will be doing 12 days instead. People who do 12 days start on the 2nd of December and post every other day. I think this is a good place for me to start and maybe next year I will be able to do a full 25 days of Blogmas.

Why Blogmas?

Last year I really loved seeing so many Christmassy blog posts and YouTube videos (for Vlogmas). When I was little I used to love Christmas-time so much! It was a time for family, food and fun.

Over the years I began to feel more distant and stopped seeing the joy in the holidays. I lost both my Grandma’s and they were a big part of Christmas for me. However, I know they would want us all to still be able to find happiness in this time that they loved so much, and their souls will be watching over us.

I really want to make an effort to rediscover parts of my inner child and simultaneously figure out what kind of protagonist I want to be in my life’s story. This is the first holiday in the past two years where I don’t have anything work-related to do. After exams I will be free as a bird to focus on getting my life together and figuring out what is important to me.

I think that Blogmas is a perfect way to encourage myself to do more writing and blogging – two things that I love but don’t seem to do enough of.

Yule and Winter Solstice

Now, I have to admit that I have been struggling with religion and spirituality for quite some time and this also had a degree of influence over my struggles with Christmas. I’m not quite ready to discuss this part of my life in detail yet, but maybe one day I’ll share this with you all.

Even so, Christmas and Yule have similar traditions even though they are seemingly rooted in different religions. It is something I have always been curious about, but that’s a story for a different day.

I am not often in the Northern Hemisphere for these holidays and I will be returning to the South for the festivities with family, but so far I have been enjoying the cooler weather. Sadly, it doesn’t snow in Dubai but the weather is really lovely and I’m glad that I’ll be staying for most of winter (I’ll be in SA for around 15 days).

Expectations

Now for those of you who are new to the world of Blogmas, here are a few things you can expect from me and this series:

  • Everything I love about Christmas and Yule
  • Favourite Christmassy movies
  • Favourite Christmassy books and stories
  • Favourite holiday foods
  • Myths and legends surrounding this time of year
  • Book tags
  • Holiday tags
  • Some recipes
  • Anything else I can think to write about

I will also be continuing my yoga challenge on my Journal Blog, along with My Butterfly Effect. So if you follow both of my blogs, you’ll be sick of me by the end of the month. Daily writing has been so much fun and it really is true what they say – if you show up at your desk everyday you will write. It might not always be something good, but that’s what editing is for!

To Be Continued

These posts will probably not be as long as my usual posts, but I’ll cut myself some slack because I have never attempted to blog this much in a month before. It is a goal of mine to get a posting schedule up and to spend a lot more time on this space, because it means so much to me and I am so happy that I started this blog after months and months of self-doubt. Now I finally have the time to get everything figured out before another busy year starts. Luckily my university only kicks off at the end of February next year, so I have plenty of time (Note to self- finish your exams this week first Bianca!).

Now I know this is technically the 4th of December when I’m writing this, but I will be back-dating it to just keep myself sane. Expect a post from me on all the even days of the month. I might even decide to extend it past Christmas itself, you never know.

I hope you will enjoy going on this journey with me!

Happy Holidays

Binx

PS Let me know if you’re doing Blogmas and leave a link! I’d love to read your posts.
