My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To be honest, I listened to the audiobook version of this story and I did so after watching the movie. The fact that Amy Adams is my celebrity crush has very little to do with this. I promise.

Nevertheless, I was very pleased with this book. The whole concept appealed to me. Julie decides to spend a year cooking through Julia Child’s recipe book while blogging about it.

The book definitely provides a lot more detail than the movie. Moreover, I loved that Julie herself voices the audiobook. It adds to the realism of her account. The interview with her at the end it another welcome addition.

I don’t often enjoy non-fiction, but this is like a contemporary piece of fiction even though I know it is a true story.

Her humour and anecdotes made it feel as if Julie is an old friend telling me about her crazy year of cooking and blogging. The fact that her husband and friends are so supportive, made me love it even more.

I’ll be on the lookout for any more of her work. I think I fell in love with a new author, just like when I discovered Eat-Pray-Love and the magnificent Elizabeth Gilbert.
