The Night Rainbow by Claire King

The Night RainbowThe Night Rainbow by Claire King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have been reading a few old books and listening to some audiobooks. I decided I need to get back to a few reviews, and this is my latest read.

The story is written from the interesting perspective of five-year-old Pea. It’s refreshing to see the world through a child’s eyes. From picking fruit to having pet scorpions, all described in her dialogue with herself and her friends.

Poor little Pea had had a rough life so far, but she gets through it all with Margot by her side. They make friends with the neighbors and try to help Maman after their Papa passed away. Maman is pregnant again after the other baby didn’t make it back from the hospital. Pea tries her best to be a good daughter and make her mother happy, even at such a young age.

It is a story with some sadness rolled into it, but the ending was happier than I expected.

Pea’s new friends seemed sinister at first, but I think that also stemmed from my own trust issues. I started reading this book a few months ago, but put it away after fearing what would happen to sweet little Pea. Luckily, I decided to pick it up again and find out what happens.

This is the author’s first novel and it is an excellent debut. The story is so realistic that we wonder if it stems from real events.

I’m glad I finally got back around to reading the books I bought over a year ago at a massive book sale. There are a few more gems waiting to be found in my dusty bookshelf.

  1. I would have probably done the same, although sadly, I might have left it altogether. There’s a book I love written from the perspective of a little girl – God, This is Anna. 🙂 I love that book.

Sounds like a book to add to my To Read List 😊

  2. Hello! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you
using for this site? I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
